A Transformational Opportunity
Vol 2 Edition 1
March 2023
Welcome to Reimagining Sequoia Station, a newsletter highlighting the local and regional benefits of Redwood City’s Transit District and how Sequoia Station’s mixed-use development project will help bring the district to life. This edition provides updates on project milestones and outreach efforts for 2023.
Don’t forget to forward this email to your friends and neighbors too!
Last year closed on a high note with the unanimous approval of the Transit District. The decision amends the Downtown Precise Plan to include the 16-acre district, which adds improved neighborhood bike and pedestrian connections, plans for future Caltrain and transit upgrades and incorporates design standards for the redevelopment of Sequoia Station. As we gear up for important milestones in 2023, the Sequoia Station team is looking forward to continuing our community outreach and entitlement work.
To kick off the new year, we submitted updates to the Sequoia Station project proposal to the city, including additional onsite and offsite civil details in response to the feedback we received from staff following our May 2022 submission. The project resubmittal is the first in a series of steps for the Sequoia Station project team as we prepare to submit a final plan later this year. In the coming months, we will further refine the project plan based on comments from city staff and committees such as the Transportation Advisory Committee, Architectural Advisory Committee, Historic Resources Advisory Committee, and Planning Commission.
Alongside our efforts with the city, we will continue to meet with neighborhood associations and community organizations to ensure Sequoia Station reflects the community’s input. In the coming months, we also expect to start in-person “meet the development team” drop-in hours to say hello and answer project questions and concerns.
We hope to meet and hear from you this year to ensure we can create a shared vision for the future of Redwood City. Here’s to a successful 2023!
The Sequoia Station team had a wonderful time celebrating the Year of the Rabbit with the Redwood City community at this year’s Lunar New Year event. We talked with community members to get their input about the future of retail, open space, and placemaking at Sequoia Station. Thank you to all who stopped by to say hello at our booth in Courthouse Square.
Below is a collection of responses from the event. We look forward to meeting more of you and hearing your input at future events!
Please get in touch to arrange a workshop for your neighborhood or community group. You can also email us to be added to an interest list for future workshops.
Transportation Advisory Committee Meeting
March 14, 2023
6:00 PM
The Sequoia Station team will provide an update on the Local Transportation Analysis and will hear comments from the committee to help refine the Bike Boulevard treatments. This will be a hybrid meeting.
We’re thrilled to be participating in the 11th annual Orgullo y Educación (OYE) Latinx Youth Conference on March 25th. The conference will bring together 400 local teens, young adults, and their parents to build community through workshops, inspirational speakers, and artistic expression. During the lunch portion of the event, we will have a booth offering opportunities for input on the future of Sequoia Station. This will be a chance for younger Redwood City residents to let us know about the improvements they would like to see at the reimagined site.
Stay tuned for photos and an update on the feedback results from the event in our next newsletter.
As a reminder, our team is available to meet and provide project updates to interested community members. If you have any questions or would like to request a presentation from the project team, please email sequoiacentervision@gmail.com or visit sequoiacentervision.com.
